A Ninth Grader Drinks Excessively With His Pals, Experiences Alcohol Poisoning, And Finds Out That Paying Attention In Class Can Affect Your Life
Andy was a high school ninth grader who frequently seemed to be living on the edge. Andy had a risk taking personality and usually wanted to do what his older brothers were doing to have fun. The underlying glitch with this was that all three of his brothers were at least 21 years old and were as a result able from a legal point of view to operate a truck or car and to ingest alcohol.
Andy, then again, had a difficult time realizing the fact that as a fifteen-year-old youth he should not be drinking alcoholic beverages. In fact, conversely, Andy generally drank with his high school pals after school, largely on the weekends.
One weekend, Andy made up his mind to drive around with some of his older guy friends. One of his buddies was old enough to purchase alcohol. After buying some wine coolers, wine, and beer, Andy and all of his buddies went to a public recreational area and drank for just about two or three hours.
After drinking more or less nine bottles of beer, Andy started to feel queasy and then threw up. When he became unconscious on the outdoor basketball court, one of his drinking pals called 911 for immediate assistance. It was fortunate that the call for emergency help was made because when his pals went to the hospital to see Andy, they found out that Andy had been showing evidence of alcohol poisoning symptoms. To be more specific, Andy had suffered through an alcohol overdose.
After getting alcohol poisoning treatment, Andy was truthfully astonished to realize that he had overdosed on alcohol because he "only" had more or less five or ten alcoholic beverages. When he explained this to the attending healthcare practitioner at the hospital, in spite of this, the healthcare practitioner informed Andy that drinking five or ten wine coolers over a two or three hour time frame could certainly be quite a bit more alcohol than can be metabolized by the body. The physician further verbalized how significant amounts of alcohol can cause the brain to shut down an individual's breathing and that when this transpires, an individual can perish.
This was the first word of warning to Andy that he was drinking in a risky manner and that there are repercussions deeds. The healthcare practitioner told Andy that he was a fortunate individual because he almost perished from alcohol poisoning the previous night.
The healthcare professional also talked to Andy's parents and suggested that they get alcohol therapy for Andy. His parents were ecstatic that Andy was out of harm's way and informed the healthcare professional that they would get Andy alcohol rehabilitation.
While conversing with his parents, Andy notified them that there must be a good reason why he did not expire and that he was grateful that he was still alive. He also notified his parents that the odd part about the entire drinking event was that he had learned about alcohol poisoning the last six week grading period in Mr. Johnson's health class.
At the time, what his health instructor, Mr. Johnson, was articulating didn't seem to make too much sense to Andy. Due to the fact that he almost passed away, then again, he felt that he should have listened more attentively in Mr. Johnson's health class and applied what he had learned to his daily living.
Andy informed his parents that he couldn't wait to go back to Mr. Johnson's classroom and make an apology to Mr. Johnson for not paying closer attention to a subject that was as noteworthy as learning about alcohol poisoning.
